Princess Katherine is recuperating at Adelaide Cottage in Windsor, spending her time with her husband, Prince William, and their three children, George, Charlotte, and Louis. To support her treatment, the couple is looking into creating a small annex adjacent to their home where Catherine can receive the necessary care. They are considering renovating a lesser-known red brick annex next to their Adelaide Cottage in Windsor. Since their move to the Berkshire estate in late 2022, the family divides their time between the four-bedroom Adelaide Cottage and their cherished home on the Sandringham estate.

Despite Adelaide Cottage’s convenience being close to Lamar School attended by the children, the family is thinking about expanding an annex to aid Catherine’s recovery. William and Katherine absolutely adore Adelaide Cottage, but it just about fits the entire family, whereas Anmer Hall is much larger with extensive grounds. A family source spilled that Adelaide Cottage is being used as a term-time property while the children are at school nearby, and Anmer Hall is for long weekends and holidays. The proposed plans involve refurbishing a dilapidated red brick annex near the cottage, serving as a sanctuary for Catherine and their staff. “Nobody knows that there is quite a spacious red brick annex building that’s not being used next door to Adelaide Cottage,” they added. “It’s currently inhabitable and needs extensive renovation works if it were to be used.”

Discussions have been ongoing for a while about using the property as part of the overall cottage grounds, but it’s just about finding the right time to kick the project off. However, the Prince of Wales is cautious about this project due to public scrutiny over royal expenses and is considering personally covering the renovation costs. “William is very conscious of the public scrutiny over the royal family’s spending habits, so he is looking at the best way to cover any renovation costs,” the source revealed. “It’s a project that’s very much been put on the back burner for now due to the family’s unfortunate position, but it will be looked at again when the time is right.”

Amid ongoing preventative chemotherapy treatments, reports say Catherine remains in good spirits, needing a peaceful setting for her recovery. Aware of potential criticism, William is contemplating funding the annex renovation himself. Adelaide Cottage, originally constructed in 1831 for Queen Adelaide, was revamped by William and Katherine in 2015. Rumors suggest the restoration included gilded dolphins and ropes in the master bedroom. The Prince of Wales will attend his first public event since Catherine’s health disclosure on Thursday, April 18th, in Sur and West London.
